They should cooperate because this is the key of the new PHP features. What I will like to see next? Maybe a major future which in many situations will mean the death of C/C++ and other programming language? Make PHP to be able to make desktop application. PHP is so elegant, and so big that if this feature will be implemented, I bet that over 50% of C/C++ programmers will port to PHP. Bring the power of web programming into desktop applications ... WOW ... a form application generated through HTML, styled with css, and php as engine ... PFFFF I can't even think about this.(PHaP sounds a little crazy, but being crazy is the key of being innovative right?)

I don't know if PHP will ever become relevant for desktop application development.

Nowadays it would make more sense if it would be used for mobile application development because that is the fastest growing market, but on that field there are languages better positioned for that purpose.
