Hello,
Another great year for PHP the community in general is about to end. This was true for the PHP Classes site community too.
The site community continues to grow at an increasing pace. This must mean that the site content contributed by hundreds of authors continues to please many users.
The site growth also reflects the effort of many users who helped to spread the word about the site, in particular those who participated in the "Friends of the PHP Classes site" initiative
A special mention is due to Felix from Germany who found a different way to guide more users to the PHP Classes site. He registered the domain http://www.php-classes.org/ and made it redirect to the phpclasses.org using his user virtual sub-domain so he could be credited for the referrals. Indeed very original!
Many other users have helped the PHP Classes site in their own way. It would take a long message to mention all of them.
However, I would like to express my gratitude to David Hartley from Australia now living in Antigua. Since I am not a native English speaker, sometimes the English in my reviews and messages like this could use some improvement. Therefore, David volunteered to review my English messages before I send them out. I really appreciate the time and patience that he has been dedicating to helping me on this.
Anybody can help. Frequently I receive improvement suggestions and sometimes reports of things that need to be fixed.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to implement all the suggestions right away. I tend to prioritize the implementation of feature requests according to the demand or the number of users who would benefit from what is suggested.
However, it is not always easy to figure out which new features would benefit more users. Additionally, with the increasing number of suggestions, it is hard to keep all of them in my mind.
To overcome these problems I finally installed a new feature request and bug tracking system, as I announced previously.
I studied several systems and picked Bugzilla. It is not written in PHP but rather in Perl. However, it seemed to be a good solution for what I wanted a tracking system to do. It lets you keep track of complex report dependencies, letting people submit reports with screenshots attached to each report. Users vote on existing reports and are notified by e-mail about additional progress of each case.
Therefore, I would like to encourage everybody, including users who previously submitted requests that have not yet been fulfilled, to go to the PHP Classes Bugzilla site and submit your feature requests or bug reports.
The reporting site is available in a separate domain that follows. To submit a report you need to create an account. This remains completely independent of your account used at the PHP Classes site itself.
Please do not use bugs site to submit support requests, just for feature requests and bug reports. Instead, send support request messages to info@phpclasses.org .
As a result of the feedback that you will be able to provide using this new site, I hope that I will soon be able to announce many more features besides the ones already in the works.
